CS2 Demos Command

If you do not know how to get started, worry not as we are here to help. In this guide, you will learn how the developer console works for demos, what console commands you need to use, and why is it so important to watch demos in CS2. Without further ado, let’s get straight into this one.

Adding Counter-Strike 2 Demo File With Developer Console

During the Counter-Strike Global Offensive days, it was easier to record a demo file. In order to do so in Counter-Strike 2, there are several steps that you will need to take in order to make it work.

Before we start, let’s go over the basics, that being to enable developer console. Here are the steps for that.

  1. Head over to the settings menu(click on the gear icon).
  2. There, find a “Game” tab.
  3. Once you are in the Game tab, you will see plenty of options to choose from. You are looking for the one labeled “Enable developer console”.
  4. Click on the available drop-down menu, and select “Yes”.
  5. The default keyboard shortcut to start the developer console is a Tilda button(~). Do not forget that you can change the default shortcut key if this one does not suit you.

Now that the console is up and ready, it is time to learn a necessary console command and routine that will start recording your matches.

  1. Start a CS2 match.
  2. Use the keyboard shortcut to open the developer console. We advise you to do it during the warmup so you do not start setting up the demo viewer while the important pistol round is being played.
  3. Type in the following console command “record name”. Keep in mind that you can change the “name” that we added as an example with whatever text you want. This is the name saved demo file will have when stored in the folder. Press enter to start recording.
  4. You can stop recording at any time, by using the console command “stop”.

Outdated Way of Watching Demos in CS2

During the transition from Counter-Strike Global Offensive to CS2, players had a great way of downloading a demo file they were interested in.

However, you should be aware that this method does not work anymore, but we can’t rule out the fact that Valve could make the download GOTV demo option available again.

Back in the beta phase, players could simply visit Steam through their web browser and log in to their account on the platform.

Then, simply head over to the “Games” section and find Counter-Strike Global Offensive. Afterward, click on the “My Game Stats” menu where you will find the “Personal Information” tab.

Once in there, select the “Premier Matches” option. There, you will see all the matches you played in CS2. On the left side, a blue button labeled “Download GOTV Demo” will appear”. Click on it and you will download the demo file.

Use software to unzip the downloaded demo, and paste it into the installation folder. The usual route is as follows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\game\csgo.

Once the file has been transferred to the Counter-Strike 2 installation folder, we advise you to rename it to something that you can remember as it will speed things up.

Start Counter-Strike 2, open the developer console, and type in the following command console command “playdemo 123″(123 is the name of the demo file you saved). Once the demo file loads, use the command “demoui” to bring up several options that you can use to speed up, slow down, or replay certain situations.

Where to Find CS2 Demos Files

CS2 demo files can be found in the installation folder. If you did not change the installation path, then this is where you will find a demo file you saved:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\game\csgo.

New Counter-Strike 2 Demo Viewer is Excellent

With the Source 2 engine that CS2 is built on, we have seen plenty of improvements when watching a demo file. Counter-Strike Global Offensive demo UI was based on the square that was filled with different options.

However, a new demo viewer provides a powerful tool for both players who want to improve their gameplay and for the content creators. Here is why. When you are inside the demo file, press the shift + F2 button to bring up a new demo viewer. Alternatively, you can also use the console command “demoui” to bring it up.

A timeline is looking better than ever. The options are simpler and easy to use. You can skip the round instantly now without having to wait for a long time which was the case with Counter-Strike Global Offensive.

There are two colors changing on the demo viewer. Each color represents a played round time. It is very easy to find longer or shorter rounds like this. Moreover, at the bottom of the screen, you will also notice a current timer or a timestamp. Moreover, the total duration of the demo file can also be seen here.

Two replay rewind options are also available. You can rewind either 15 seconds backward or fast forward 15 seconds. It is also worth noting that you can choose the round you want to watch in the demo viewer.

Last but not least, there are even more speed options waiting for you including 1/4, 1/2, 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x. Switching between players is very easy now as you can either use the left or right click. Alternatively, you can also click on the Steam logos to view that player in particular.

All in all, content creators will love that the demo viewer is located at the bottom of the recording which allows for easier screenshots and overall makes their life much easier.

Alternative Way Of Recording Demos in CS2

If using console commands or a demo viewer is too much of a task for you, we would like to introduce OBS. This is a third-party software that will allow you to watch demos in CS2 easily.

Here are the necessary steps you need to take in order to make it work.

  • Download OBS from the official platform.
  • Install the program and run it. When you first start up the program, Auto configuration wizards will appear. By clicking on the “Yes” button, the program will automatically optimize itself for recording.
  • In order to start recording CS2 gameplay, you will have to add a source.
  • Navigate to the “Sources” tab and choose the “Game Capture” option.
  • Adjust audio and microphone levels if needed and click on the “Start Recording” button. Instantly, OBS will start recording Counter-Strike 2 matches.

You should be aware that we only recommend this new demo viewer option to players who have high-end hardware. Bear in mind that this program will significantly affect the PC performance as both the CPU and GPU usage will go up.

If you are barely running Counter-Strike 2, then there is a high chance that you will feel FPS drops and potential lag, so think twice before using third-party software to record and watch your own demos. Do not forget to use CS2 FPS console commands to inspect your frames.

CS2 vs Counter-Strike Global Offensive Demo Console Commands Comparison

The fact is, Counter-Strike Global Offensive was built on an outdated engine. This was obvious from the demo viewer that was put in place for the game. However, with the Counter-Strike 2, players have a brand new demo viewer that is perfectly optimized.

Counter-Strike Global Offensive old demo UI

Let’s start with Counter-Strike Global Offensive first. The old demo UI was slow, and the entire rewind process took forever. On top of that, the old demo viewer used to bug out and produce sounds that were not relevant to the round time that a player was watching.

Contrary to that, the new demo viewer in CS2 works like a charm. You can instantly skip between the rounds without any delay. Moreover, there is no input lag and the sound does not bug out anymore. At times, some players will notice that the round button will display an incorrect round. However, we are positive that Valve is going to patch this in no time.

Why is it Important to Watch Demos in Counter-Strike 2

There are several reasons why you should watch demos in CS2. Alongside watching your own demos, we would also suggest that you download a GOTV demo from professional CS2 players as there is plenty of information that can be learned on the spot.

  • Not making the same mistakes again: By far the biggest advantage of a demo viewer is learning on your mistakes. During the game, you might not be aware of what is happening around you. At times, you will fail to react to some things. This is why it is important to download and watch demos. By doing this, you can learn from your mistakes and never do them again.
  • Learning how professional Counter-Strike 2 players are attacking and defending: Let’s that you are an entry fragger when playing on the terrorists’ side. Download GOTV demo from pros who are playing the entry role and see how they enter a bombsite. The same applies to defending. If you are an A player on the counter-terrorists side, see the positioning and reactions of a pro playing the same spots.
  • Easy way to learn utility line-ups: Have you ever seen a random teammate throw a perfect molotov or smoke grenade? If you did not have time to catch on to what he was doing, you can use the demo viewer and see the line-up. This is a great way to become a better all-around player.

Give Counter-Strike 2 Gambling a Chance

Now that you learned all there is about console commands, new demo viewer, and how to download demo in Counter-Strike 2, it is time to talk about CS2 gambling.

Popular Counter-Strike 2 gambling sites will provide you with plenty of games to choose from. Some of the most common ones are Blackjack, Roulette, Coinflip, Crash, Plinko, and Dice. Additionally, certain operators also put in place Case Openings and even Case Battles.

Let’s not forget the fact that there are also platforms out there that will allow you to place wagers on CS2 matches played by the pros.

If you are interested in something like this, do not forget the fact that operators want to reward newcomers with excellent bonuses and promotions. For instance, just by signing up for an account, you can claim free money.
